Piaggio Group Japan has announced the special edition "Vespa GTS 80TH" to celebrate the brand's 80th anniversary. Embodying the spirit of Vespa, which has evolved as a symbol of freedom and elegance since its birth in 1946, this model combines a special color scheme with the latest technology and will be available for order starting May 1, 2026.

Special Specifications Inheriting Vespa's History and Spirit

Vespa, patented and born on April 23, 1946, celebrates its 80th anniversary this year. Throughout its long history, it has evolved into over 160 models, becoming synonymous with style, freedom, innovation, performance, and Italian style and elegance.

The "Vespa GTS 80TH" announced this time is a special edition that embodies the original spirit of Vespa. It is a specially equipped model that fuses the style, colors, and details that have built its tradition with the latest technology, designed for those who consider Vespa a true symbol of freedom.

The special color scheme features pastel green, reminiscent of the spring of 1946. This color originates from the first color code unearthed from historical archives, symbolizing the wave of upheaval and creativity during the post-war reconstruction period. This green, one of Vespa's iconic colors, laid the foundation for Vespa's colorful worldview over the subsequent decades.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price is 935,000 yen (tax included). The engine is a water-cooled 4-stroke SOHC 4-valve 278cc, and the body color is "Verde 80TH." Special equipment includes wheels with a dedicated design, mirrors painted in the same color as the body, grab rail, leg shield molding, handlebar switch cover, front suspension linkage cover, TFT color meter, Vespa multimedia platform, "80th" emblem, and "80 years of Vespa Est. 1946" badge. The release date is May 1, 2026 (Friday), with shipments scheduled to begin in early June.

80th Anniversary Special Feeling Embodied in Every Detail

The special touches on the Vespa 80TH extend to various details, reflecting the world view of a product that was simple yet innovative in its value of practicality and functionality in the post-war era. The leg shield molding, passenger grab handle, rearview mirrors, handlebar switch covers, and front suspension linkage covers are painted in a satin finish in the same color as the body, creating an impressive finish that complements the glossy body paint.

Furthermore, the stitched seat, the cover inside the leg shield, and the handlebar grips are enhanced with a tone-on-tone dark green finish, creating a minimalist yet bold look. The wheels, subtly adorned with "Est. 1946" graphics, are custom-made and inspired by the 1946 Vespa 98. They are also painted in pastel green, evoking the structure of the pressed steel wheels of that era, with a diamond-cut finish on the rim.

The front shield features the traditional Vespa logo with an "80th" emblem, and the glove box lid inside the leg shield is adorned with an "80 years of Vespa Est. 1946" badge to celebrate this important milestone.

The Vespa GTS 80th is a special limited model born to make its mark on the history of the world's beloved scooter, grandly celebrating Vespa – the universal symbol of style, joy of life, and freedom – at the largest Vespa event in history, held in Rome from June 25 to 28, 2026.
