The YZF-R1 was announced to be discontinued in Europe with the 2024 model year, and there were rumors of production discontinuation, but the 2025 model year has been released in North America and Japan, and production is continuing. It seems that many inquiries have been received by dealers in Japan. The 2026 model of the YZF-R1 ABS for Japan has now been announced, and in addition to the standard model, the lineup includes the advanced model YZF-R1M ABS and the long-awaited YZF-R1 70th Anniversary Edition ABS in Yamaha's 70th anniversary colors.
For 2026, the "70th Anniversary Edition" will be added to the three-model lineup
Yamaha Motor Sales Co., Ltd. has announced that the "YZF-R1 ABS," a supersport model equipped with a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, in-line 4-cylinder, 997cc engine with a cross-plane crankshaft, will go on sale on April 17 with a new color scheme. The high-end "YZF-R1M" model will also go on sale on April 17, while the "70th Anniversary Edition," commemorating Yamaha Motor's 70th anniversary in 2025, will go on sale on January 30 in a limited edition of 200 units. Deep Purplish Blue Metallic C, which is used on the YZF-R1 ABS, is a blue color that recalls racing scenes and emphasizes Yamaha's racing image, giving a direct impression of performance. The model logo on the body side is highlighted by cyan lines on the lower part of the body and the edges of the clear-coated carbon winglets.

The standard model YZF-R1 ABS features a blue color that is reminiscent of the current Yamaha works racers.

The "70th Anniversary Edition" on the 2026 YZF-R Series commemorates Yamaha Motor's 70th anniversary.

The YZF-R1M ABS features carbon materials and a buffed aluminum fuel tank with a clear coated finish.
