Because these models are equipped with high-performance engines, maintenance should be performed regularly and thoroughly to maintain factory performance. The Yamaha WR250 series is equipped with a high-performance super 4-stroke single engine, which is rare among production road bikes. Here, oil changes are practiced.

Use of high-performance additives ranks up the difference in running performance.

The difference can be achieved by adding only 10% of the oil volume to the engine, commonly known as Gold Label, Super Zoil for 4-stroke engines, which can be used with both 100% synthetic and mineral oils. In many cases, a noticeable difference can be felt in old, tired engines.

The engine oil used here was Motorex CrossPower 4T 10W60, which is developed for motocrossers and supermotard models, and to which 10% SuperZoil for 4-stroke engines was added, as ordered by the machine owner.

The 4-stroke single model is a Yamaha tradition. The WR250X is a numbered model equipped with the ultra-high-performance Super Single engine. There are still many people who are waiting for a "supersport single" road model with this series of engines. ......

Change the oil filter every two oil changes!

When draining the engine oil, it should always be done after warming up the engine or after driving. Since the oil temperature is high immediately after driving, the engine oil should be drained from the drain bolt after it has cooled down to a certain degree.

The oil filter was also changed. After draining the oil from inside the element (filter) case, wipe the inside thoroughly with a clean rag and check for any dirt buildup.

Exceeding the maximum oil level causes "breather blowout".

Super Zoil is effective when added at 10% of the oil volume. It is best to mix the oil in an oil jug before injection. The amount of oil was less than expected, just over 1 liter.

After injecting the oil, start the engine and let it idle for a minute or two. After that, turn the main key to OFF, wait for about 1 minute, and check the results. Be careful not to put in too much oil.

Front forks have more sliding resistance than expected.

Applying rubber grease to the fork seals improves their operation. Inverted front forks tend to have tighter oil and dust seals because they do not want oil leaks and seepage.

External lubrication can also improve sliding and operating properties. Super Zoil rubber grease was used to apply to the sliding surfaces of the inner tube, spread thinly with a rag.

Check the operability of the rear shock unit periodically. A small amount of SuperZoil spray was sprayed on the shock absorber rods. If the oil runs out, the operation of the shock absorber will deteriorate.

Lift under the engine to grease up the rear suspension.

The linkage mechanism of the rear shock unit was disassembled and the needle bearings and bushings were greased. Since there are so many moving parts, greasing the unit definitely improves the operation of the unit.

It is best to work with an off-vehicle maintenance stand or lift-up stand set up under the engine. The disassembled links and bearings were cleaned and greased.

The machine owner told us that this was the first time he greased the machine after purchasing it. The amount of grease applied is low when the car is newly assembled, so greasing the car early is very effective. Be careful not to apply too much grease.

POINT

  • Point 1・It is most important to change oil and oil filter early on a regular basis and when you are concerned.
  • Point 2・Using high performance engine oil, you can understand the difference (shine) of sliding details when you disassemble the engine
  • .

The engine mechanism is made up of metal surfaces that are not smooth and rub against each other to make each part work. When invisible uneven surfaces are smoothed out, the operation and smoothness of each part of the car body improves remarkably. For example, the inside of an engine that has been running with no maintenance often has numerous scratches on the metal surfaces because the metal is rubbing against each other too much and is not smooth. In other words, the metal surfaces are often uneven, which causes mechanical noise.

Smooth and smooth running can sometimes be restored by mixing a high-performance additive in the engine oil. Of course, once the sliding parts are worn beyond a certain level, the noise-eliminating effect cannot be obtained. However, there must be many users who have experienced the reduction of mechanical noise and mellow engine sound by maintaining and stabilizing oil film formation. In the past, the following incidents have occurred. Despite the low mileage, the driver was concerned about mechanical noise at idling, so he opened the oil filler cap during idling, injected about 200cc of high performance engine oil additive, and asked the driver how it was. The result was that the mechanical noise that was bothering him was muffled more than he had imagined. Mechanical noise caused by excessive wear of parts is difficult to eliminate, but slight noise can be eliminated by the effect of the high performance engine oil additive. This is an actual case where the smoothness of the sliding surfaces has led to smoother operation and reduced or eliminated the noise.

A byproduct of reduced frictional resistance is longer engine oil life. Reduced friction loss lowers engine oil temperature. Another feature of high-performance engine oil additives is that they can suppress the generation of iron powder, which is generated when metals rub against each other, resulting in wear and tear. The important thing is that reduced frictional resistance extends the life of engine parts and, in the long run, reduces running costs. The Yamaha WR250X equipped with the high-performance Super Single engine was used for the oil change, and the effects of Super Zoil have also been confirmed on motocrossers equipped with advanced 4-stroke engines. For example, on a motocross course with a series of jamb sections, the sudden torque reaction that occurs when landing on the ground is much greater than expected, causing the tires to suddenly spin out on a muddy road surface. The next instant, they grip with the road surface, which tends to put a great deal of stress on the drivetrain. In fact, the tooth surfaces of the transmission gear and primary gear are easily damaged by such continuous torque fluctuations. In some cases, the addition of this product to motocrossers has definitely improved the condition of various gears that were previously prone to pain.

The same is true for drive chains. However, when Super Zoil Spray was used in place of chain grease, the wear rate of the front and rear sprockets slowed down noticeably, and the life of the chain, including the drive chain, was extended to an incomparably longer period. The life of the chain, including the drive chain, has been lengthened to an extent that is unmatched in the past. To meet the demand for such a drive chain, a drive chain lube with Super Zoyl added to the chain grease is also available in the lineup. On this WR250X, the driver changed the engine oil and filter, and greased the front and rear suspension. Since this was the first greasing after purchasing the vehicle, the bike felt even smoother after the work was done. It is important not only to run the bike but also to maintain it. Let's keep up the good results.
