Why is MotoE, the electric motorcycle race, coming to an end? An Interview with the Executive Director

It has been announced that the FIM MotoE World Championship, an electric motorcycle race now in its seventh season, will end at the end of this season. Why did MotoE, which began with high expectations as "the race of the future," come to an end? We interviewed Nicolas Goubert, Executive Director of MotoE.

Sudden announcement of the end

The FIM MotoE World Championship (MotoE) electric motorcycle race will end after the 2025 season, it was announced on September 11, the Thursday of the San Marino round (held in conjunction with the San Marino GP of the MotoGP). MotoE is a championship contested by electric bikes that began in 2019; the 2025 season will consist of seven rounds of 14 races (with two races held per round) and will be held in conjunction with MotoGP. The bikes are Ducati and the tires are Michelin. Ducati is supplying the V21L, an electric racer developed for MotoE. Another feature of the tires supplied by Michelin is the use of sustainable materials. In its seventh season, the press release from Dorna stated that it was "on hiatus," but there was no indication that it would resume, and it was clear that this was in fact the "end" of the project.
