HONDA Trail CT110 Hunter Cub 1981 Semi-Restoration Vol.13
The Honda CT125 Hunter Cub is as popular as ever. It is absolutely popular as a moped model for enjoying "motorcycle x camping" with a full load of luggage. The CT110, the ancestor of such a very popular model, is also a focus of attention! and enjoys maintenance and customization. At the request of the machine owner, we practiced modification = customization of the step area.

The CT110 Hunter Cub has a design that I never get tired of even if I look at it now.

Instead of a red body and chrome parts, the CT110 Hunter Cub looks tighter with most of the chrome parts finished in semi-gloss black. The contrast between the red and black is also a nice touch. The Monkey M-type check seat is also a point of interest.

The owner asked us if we could make the steps "foldable when not in use". As I recall, many old Honda cars had such a specification. ...... So, we completed the conversion to a step that can be "folded down" by using a stock modification.
We asked if we could reduce the width of the step due to a problem with the motorcycle storage space.
Adjust the length of the side stand, which was unusable to begin with.

The side stand pivot of the monkey step was left in place, and the base plate side of the folding step was positioned and temporarily welded first, then fixed with a full weld.

To begin with, this CT110 was fitted with a Honda genuine parts side stand of unknown use, so it was rebuilt. The step bracket was reinforced to prevent it from bending under load.
The "fit and forget" specification instead of a simple spring retractable system.

By keeping the steps folded down, they are able to make better use of the parking space by reducing the overall width of the leg room when the bike is put away. The owner is very satisfied.

When pushing the bike around, the fixed type of step can hit the small of his shin, which is painful, but if the step stays in place, he says it doesn't hit his shin and doesn't hurt him.
Very happy with the side itand with less leaning of the vehicle.

The main stand and modified side stand "are now easier to use separately," says the machine owner. After installing it on the vehicle and checking its usability, he ordered it painted.

The previous sidestand had a large tilt, but the tilt was changed to a more upright position. This is a very user-friendly design. We are happy with the result.
- Super Cub x Maintenance World - The domestic model CT110 had been left unused and had no maintenance. We are planning to customize it to make it even more user-friendly from here. ......
The domestic version of the CT110 Hunter Cub was delivered to the owner after it was roughly finished. However, once we started riding the bike, we found that we wanted to make various modifications and changes to the specifications, so we decided to extend the work. The owner enjoys modifying and customizing the bike according to his own taste, rather than maintaining and preserving the completely stock bike.
A few days after delivery, we received a text message. He said that when he was pushing the bike around in his garage at home, the fixed step hit his shin splints and calves, causing him pain on several occasions. Perhaps a folding step, like the one on the export version of the CT110, would improve the situation. However, that alone would not be interesting or fulfilling. Instead of a step that folds back with the force of a spring, it would be more convenient to have a step that can be maintained in a retracted position, like the Honda models of the late 70s and early 80s, even if it is the same folding type. Users who own multiple bikes will understand why, I think.
Considering such a situation, I asked him, "Would you like to convert it to a step that can be folded and remain retracted?" I suggested, "If it's possible, please do it! was the reply. After such a meeting, I immediately started looking for parts. I had a Super Cub series bike, the Passport I used to own had exactly such specifications. Going back to my high school memories, there were many Honda models with such specification steps at the end of the 70's. As I recall, there was the Hawk II and other models of the same age. I remembered that there were many Hawk II models of the same era that had such specifications, so I searched for the corresponding parts on the Internet auction. However, it was already too late, and the prices of the parts were surprisingly low due to the popularity of old cars. In such a situation, I found a part for GL400 with OHV V-twin engine in pieces on both sides. There were some protectors on the step rubber end due to the difference of the year, but I could make it to the same specification later, so I bid for the parts first and started the work by cutting and pasting the parts together. The result was good and strong, so I decided to finish it with semi-gloss black baked-on paint.
