BMW Motorrad has announced the new mid-class adventure model, the "BMW F450GS," and began accepting orders on its dedicated website on May 19, 2026. Its most distinctive feature is the adoption of the new "Easy Ride Clutch (ERC)" mechanism, which eliminates the need for clutch operation, powered by a completely newly designed parallel-twin engine. The price starts from 961,000 yen, with deliveries scheduled to begin in early September 2026. This is a strategic model designed to be versatile, from daily use to off-road riding.

Mid-Class Model Condensing the Essence of GS

The new F450 GS is scheduled for delivery from early September 2026.

The new "BMW F450GS" has been developed as a strategic model for the expanding mid-class market, which has seen significant growth in recent years due to a trend towards downsizing. It boasts high versatility, covering everything from daily commuting to touring, sporty riding, and off-road excursions. Key features include high-performance LED headlights with iconic X-shaped daytime running lights and a compact design with a short wheelbase. The Japanese specification model comes standard with an ETC 2.0 onboard unit and a 3-year warranty.

Newly Developed Parallel-Twin Engine and Innovative "ERC" Clutch

The heart of the F450GS is a completely newly designed parallel-twin engine, delivering a maximum output of 35kW (48hp) at 8,750rpm and a peak torque of 43Nm at 6,750rpm. The 135-degree crankpin offset and the use of a balance shaft suppress vibrations while achieving a characterful, thumping feel. With a fuel efficiency of approximately 26.3 km/L and a 14L tank, it offers a cruising range of over 350km.

The most significant innovation is the newly developed "Easy Ride Clutch (ERC)". Although a clutch lever is present, the ERC system makes clutch operation unnecessary for starting, shifting, or stopping. Combined with the Shift Assistant Pro quickshifter, it enables seamless gear changes.

The newly developed parallel-twin engine of the F450GS features an unusual 135° crankpin offset and produces 48hp.

The chassis features a newly designed steel tubular frame, ensuring light weight, high rigidity, and agile handling. The suspension consists of KYB upside-down forks at the front and an aluminum swingarm with high torsional rigidity combined with a KYB monoshock at the rear. The Japanese specification does not include spoked wheels, and the seat height is set at 845mm.

The chassis is also newly designed. The wheel sizes are 19 inches front and 17 inches rear. Spoked wheels are not available for the Japanese specification.

Comprehensive Electronic Controls and Connectivity

Riding modes can be selected from three options: "Rain," "Road," and "Enduro." Furthermore, advanced electronic controls such as ABS Pro, DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), and MSR (Motor Slip Regulation) are standard equipment, ensuring safety and braking performance in various riding situations.

The instrument cluster features a large 6.5-inch TFT display that shows all information and functions. Connectivity features allow for hands-free calls, music playback, and navigation while riding. The cockpit is also equipped with a practical USB-C power outlet.
