The DN series of helmets takes advantage of Daytona's unique development capabilities. The "DN-009CL" is a full-face helmet with a classic style and modern comfort features such as ventilation and washable interior. In this issue, we checked its wearing comfort.

Simple form with an emphasis on a retro image

Neo-classic models with a retro image, such as Kawasaki Z900RS, Honda GB350, and Triumph Speed 400, are becoming popular regardless of whether they are domestically produced or imported. The DN-009CL was developed and manufactured by Daytona as a full-face helmet that matches such models. The simply shaped shell (cap), which does not spoil the classic look, is made of high-strength ABS and meets the SG standard for safety in Japan. The shield has a UV-cut function, the interior is removable and washable, and speaker holes are provided for intercom use.It is only available in matte black, but comes in four sizes: S, M, L, and XL. The price for all sizes is 17,600 yen (including tax), which is also a reasonable price.Smoked, dark smoke, and silver mirrors are also available as optional parts for the shield. The price including tax is 2,750 yen (3,300 yen for silver mirror only).

DN-009CL. a full-face helmet with a classic look and functionality. The large eye port (opening) allows for a wide field of vision.

There is plenty of room around the mouth to breathe without feeling suffocated. No inner visor is equipped, and the side view has a simple form.

No aeroforms or rear air outlets are equipped, resulting in a classic, simple shell shape.

Comfortable wraparound fit.

As I usually use size M of domestic makers, I also tried on the "DN-009CL" in size M (57-58cm) The actual measured weight of size M is 1502g, which is average in comparison with other makers' products. However, I thought it was rather heavy for not being equipped with an inner visor or ventilation shutters. When I actually tried it on, it was large for a size M, and the shell itself felt large. Even so, the interior at the top of the head fits the head securely so it does not slip out of place, and the ear pads and back side pads support the head as if they were wrapped around it, so it is comfortable to wear. In addition, the weight of the shell is well balanced, and it felt lighter than the actual measurement. The size of the shell itself also provides more space around the mouth, and it felt comfortable to wear without feeling suffocating. The shield sometimes fogged up when the vehicle was stopped, but the fogging could be eliminated by raising the shield a little. Another feature of the DN-009CL is that although the eye port is large and the shield is larger to match, the DN-009CL provides a clear and wide field of vision with no distortion.

The front air intake is slit-shaped. It is not equipped with an open/close switch, but the mesh prevents foreign objects from entering.

The air intake at the mouth is also slit-shaped and is not equipped with an open/close switch. Mesh is provided to prevent foreign objects from entering.

Sticking to a classic, simple form, the air outlets are located on the underside of the rear of the shell.

There is enough room in the interior of the temple area to fit a pair of glasses. If the earpiece was straight, it would be easier to wear.

Neo-Classic Helmet with Ventilation Performance

The DN-009CL is characterized by its simple shell shape, which is designed to look retro. Therefore, the air intakes are also simple slit shapes and the air outlets are placed in inconspicuous positions. One would have expected no ventilation function. However, the ventilation functioned well, as we could feel the air flow from about 40 km/h. The temperature was 12°C at the time of the interview . Since the temperature was 12°C at the time of the interview, the top of my head felt quite cool. One thing that bothered me was that the running wind also entered from the underside of the chin guard. Since the air intakes are not equipped with a shutter function, I would recommend wearing a neck warmer, balaclava, or other thermal item during cold weather. On the other hand, hot weather will be felt as good ventilation performance.Although the shell shape is simple, it is not inferior in aerodynamic performance, and in the speed range of urban areas, the head did not shake in the driving wind. However, wind noise seems to be generated around the screws that hold the shield in place, and the noise becomes louder at speeds of around 60 km/h. Rather than long high-speed cruising, we recommend this model for city riding and short touring, taking advantage of its clear and wide visibility and high ventilation performance. The DN-009CL has a classical form with a modern and comfortable fit, and its good cost performance is also a major attraction.

The headband is large and can be put on and taken off smoothly. It is comfortable to wear, but the fit is not bad.

The chinstrap has a D-ring for secure fastening. Also equipped with snaps to fasten the chinstrap.

Earholes are provided to accommodate intercom speakers.

The grooves in the shock-absorbing liner provide a path for the running air to pass through, providing effective ventilation performance.

The interior is a three-piece construction, all washable. The interior surfaces are suede, enhancing the classic look.
