Yamaha Motor Sales Co., Ltd. will launch the "AEROX ABS," a light motorcycle class sport scooter equipped with a 155cc "BLUE CORE" engine, on August 31, 2026. Developed with the concept of "the scooter closest to a supersport," it features styling that incorporates the design philosophy of the "YZF-R series." The biggest highlight is the adoption of the "YECVT," an electronically controlled CVT that allows riders to enjoy a driving sensation similar to a manual transmission. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is 481,800 yen.

In recent years, demand for scooters in the 126cc to 200cc class has been steadily growing, and this trend is expected to continue. Furthermore, there are many voices, particularly among young people, expressing admiration for supersport models but also concerns about their operability, leading to increased interest in AT scooters.

The Yamaha "AEROX" is a model developed based on this market environment and needs, with the concept of "the scooter closest to a supersport model." It achieves a high level of balance between the essence of supersport models and the practicality of a scooter. In addition to styling that incorporates the design philosophy of the "YZF-R series," it features the "YECVT," an electronically controlled CVT. This provides the enjoyment of sporty handling by utilizing the fluctuations in engine speed, similar to a manual transmission. Moreover, it is equipped with convenient features and equipment for daily use.

The design concept is "the ultimate supersport scooter." While considering ease of use in daily life, the center tunnel is positioned high, creating a sense of high center of gravity and an agile silhouette. The front mask features sharp LED position lamps reminiscent of a bird of prey's eyes and compact LED projector headlights, with winglet-like styling in a carbon-like finish below the headlights. The vertical layout LED taillights and integrated grab bars emphasize a sporty rear silhouette.

While considering daily usability, the raised center tunnel achieves a high center of gravity and agile silhouette different from conventional scooters.

155cc Engine with VVA and "YECVT" Electronically Controlled CVT

It is equipped with a water-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve, 155cc "BLUE CORE" engine. It features "VVA (Variable Valve Actuation)" which switches the intake valve's operating characteristics according to the riding conditions, realizing excellent torque characteristics and linear acceleration feel across a wide range of RPMs.

Furthermore, it adopts the "YECVT," which allows for electronically controlled simulated gear changes by rider input, following the NMAX155. Two riding modes can be selected: "T mode" for smooth city riding and "S mode" for sharp acceleration. It also features a "shift down" function that allows for deceleration ratio changes at any desired timing, with up to three levels of downshifting possible. It is also equipped with an SMG system for quiet starts without the "whining" sound, and a traction control system.

The 155cc water-cooled single-cylinder SOHC 4-valve "BLUE CORE" engine produces 15PS. This is the second model to feature the "YECVT," following the current NMAX155.

Mode switching is done by operating the button on the index finger side of the left handlebar switchgear.

Allows for changes in deceleration ratio at any desired timing, realizing a shift-down feel similar to a manual transmission. This expands the rider's options and provides the joy of riding in situations such as "wanting to overtake the vehicle ahead," "wanting to use engine braking on a long downhill," or "wanting to accelerate smoothly when exiting a corner."

High-Rigidity Frame & 14-inch Suspension

To contribute to a sporty ride, a high-rigidity frame is adopted with optimized placement of reinforcing members in the main pipe, down tube, and center tunnel. The front suspension features 30mm diameter inner tubes, and the rear is equipped with a suspension with a sub-tank. Both front and rear wheels are large 14-inch size, and both front and rear are equipped with 230mm diameter disc brakes.

Abundant Features and Smartphone Connectivity

The cockpit features a 4.2-inch TFT display with three selectable display modes. The "Track Mode," inspired by the world of the "YZF-R" series, also allows for lap time recording. Smartphone connectivity using the dedicated app "Y-Connect" is also included, supporting features such as "Turn by Turn navigation," incoming call notifications, and music volume control.

Convenience features include a smart key, a fuel filler cap that can be operated without opening the seat, a front box with a USB Type-C compatible charging socket, and an under-seat trunk with a capacity of approximately 24.5 liters. The turn signals are also equipped with ESS (Emergency Stop Signal). The color variations are as follows, with a price of 481,800 yen. The release date is August 31st. The annual sales target in Japan is 1,400 units.

The new TFT meter features a three-dimensional layout with the front recessed within the panel. Turn-by-turn navigation and other features are also available.
