EV motorcycles are becoming more and more practical as a result of recent technological research and refinement through mass production. Even at this stage, however, EV bikes still lack the cruising range of gasoline-powered vehicles and the charging infrastructure has yet to be completely solved. However, the European architectural design firm MASK Architects has unveiled a new concept model that solves all of these problems. The name is "SOLARIS," and it is the world's first self-recharging solar-powered bike that generates and runs solely on sunlight, eliminating the need for recharging or refueling!

The structure continues to generate power from sunlight. Running independent of external infrastructure

The most distinctive feature of SOLARIS is its retractable solar-powered wings. When parked, the wing-shaped solar panels are deployed as a circular array to efficiently collect sunlight to generate electricity. The collected electricity is stored in a large-capacity lithium battery and used to power the vehicle while it is in motion. Through this mechanism, SOLARIS does not require gas stations, power grids, or commercial recharging facilities. Even when running, SOLARIS functions as a quiet, emission-free electric motorcycle without being connected to an external power source. It is also unique in that it operates as a power generator itself while parked and continues to store energy.

Solar panels extending like two blades eliminate the need to recharge and refill the battery!

A high-torque motor is used for driving, and the belt drive makes it quieter. In addition, during deceleration, regenerative braking recovers kinetic energy, which is reused as electricity as well as sunlight. The chassis is a lightweight structure combining aluminum and carbon materials, designed to be both strong and easy to maneuver. The silhouette, which was inspired by the supple movements and muscular structure of a leopard, expresses the creature-like movements in a mechanical form with its elongated front shape, tight frame structure, and overall balance with an awareness of its forward leaning posture. This design is not only visually appealing, but also takes aerodynamic drag and structural balance into consideration.

Although the panels are so impressive, they can also be folded like a fan.

Lights are neatly provided, too, with angular LED lenses that contrast with the organic panel.

The car features an aluminum and carbon composite frame. The body structure is surprisingly similar to that of a typical bike.

Realistically... what about the panels that are so huge?

Looking at the description alone, the SOLARIS is a revolutionary machine that breaks through many of the disadvantages of EVs to date. It can be used in areas without infrastructure, in remote areas, and in places where the burden on the natural environment needs to be minimized, and it could play an active role in developing regions and in the eco-city concept. Nevertheless, what is most interesting from a rider's point of view is its overly large solar panels. They look like insects spreading their wings, and it is obvious that they will create strong aerodynamic drag. It will take up a lot of space in traffic jams, and its cruising range when folded up will also be a major issue. At this stage, therefore, the future of SOLARIS running around freely is still not near at hand. However, MASK Architects has been presenting architectural concepts for new lifestyles based on the concept of building a self-sufficient and adaptable environment, and SOLARIS may be a dream come true if it can work with manufacturers who are willing to make improvements toward the realization of such concepts, such as miniaturization of solar panels and improvements in the detachable function. SOLARIS could also be a dream come true if it teams up with a manufacturer that can improve the solar panels' size and detachable functionality. We look forward to the future prospects of SOLARIS.
