AGRAS Aluminum Mastery: Suzuki KATANA Custom

AGRAS's KATANA

AGRAS has been producing high-quality aluminum machined parts at in-house NC machining centers for various models. They also released parts for the new Suzuki KATANA shortly after its introduction. The focus for this custom is on the handlebar kit and the company's signature sliders.

The handlebar is a machined product made of A2017 material, including the top bridge. It has a structure that combines multiple pieces. When you closely examine the installation photos, you'll notice that it has recesses in places where it seems likely to interfere with other parts, while maintaining sufficient strength and a textured feel. "This is something we have been testing since before the release of the KATANA, and it is now available on the market. One of the challenges was the height of the stock tank cover and the unexpected interference in many places, making it difficult to secure space. At one point, we considered including handle stoppers or a dedicated handle lock to reduce the handle turn angle and prevent interference. However, adding more components increases the price, and, above all, a greater handle turn angle makes the bike easier to control. Therefore, we devised a way to retain the stock turning angle of the KATANA. We created new jigs, processed junk products from previously made items to try out and generate base data, which resulted in the creation of this top bridge and handlebar," as explained by Mr. Kuboyama, from AGRAS. In terms of the position of the bar, it is slightly forward and downward compared to stock, with a tilting angle of about 10 degrees. This aligns well with the mechanical design and machined texture of the KATANA, and the position is also attractive. The engine slider, designed to 'connect the front/upper engine mount and also serve as frame reinforcement,' is also refreshing. The slider mounted on the side of the crankcase was designed to fit the body side of the base (the back side of the product) as much as possible to create a clean look without unnecessary space. Standard steps and helmet holders are also part of the lineup. With a diverse range of high-quality, "usable" AGRAS parts, they match well with the KATANA and enhance its appeal.

Handle

The "Clip-on Handlebar Kit" includes a clip-on handlebar, top bridge, and center nut. The clip-on type with a machined aluminum design is futuristic, and it can be used with the stock cables.

The clip-on handlebars are installed using a bracket that extends from the bottom of the top bridge (included in the kit), preventing interference with various parts such as the front cowl and tank cover. All parts are machined from A2017 aluminum.

Engine

The 'Radiator Core Guard' is made of stainless steel with an etched finish to protect the radiator core from small stones and other debris. There are two configurations: Type A, which features the AGRAS logo, and Type B, without logo.

The "Racing Slider Clutch Type 2 (Aluminum Base + Duracon)" is a slider that is installed by tightening it together with the clutch cover bolt on the right side of the engine. The base is machined from A2017 aluminum and the slider is made of Duracon. The back side is designed to match the KATANA crankcase.

The "Racing Slider φ60 Engine Hanger Type (Aluminum Base + Duracon)" which is installed to connect the upper/front engine mounts, is a set of right and left sliders made of machined aluminum base and Duracon. Available in white and black.

Chassis

The "Rear Sets" have four positions: 0 x 35, 0 x 45, 10 x 35, 10 x 45 (mm) back x up. Despite its compact size, it offers high leg-hold performance, and the stock brake switch can be used.

The "Helmet Holder" is a set of a special bracket and helmet lock made of machined aluminum, and can be mounted with or without the pillion step. The aluminum bracket is available in silver or black, and the helmet lock is available in plated or black.
